Scholarships
The Minnesota Daily Alumni Association awards up to two $1,000 scholarships per semester to current Minnesota Daily employees. Our goal is to recognize extraordinary student employees who go above and beyond in their commitment to the Daily, as well as display academic merit and financial need. Editorial, business, and administrative employees are encouraged to apply. The application process typically begins in October and February.
Requirements: Applicants must be a current Minnesota Daily employee and a full-time University of Minnesota student. They must also have a minimum 2.7 GPA and be in good standing with the Daily, as defined by its human resources department. Applications should include a resume, unofficial transcript copy and a one-page letter explaining the applicant’s merits. Finalists must also be available to participate in a formal interview with the alumni association’s board of directors.
Additional Terms: Members of the Office of the Publisher are not eligible to apply. Applicants may receive the alumni scholarship only once. The MDAA reserves the right to contact applicants for additional information.
Please direct questions to your Office of the Publisher representative, or contact MDAA scholarships coordinator Dan Haugen.

PAST WINNERS
Spring 2012:
Congratulations to Mackenzie Davis and Jill Jensen, recipients of the spring 2012 Minnesota Daily Alumni Recognition Scholarship.
Mackenzie Davis joined the Daily as a classified marketing consultant in 2009. She was promoted to retail sales manager in 2010, and has spent her final year as sales productivity director. In her current role, Davis has worked to maintain a fun and productive work environment for the organization’s sales team, and she’s helped smooth the transition to a new ad scheduling software.
Jill Jensen started as a campus desk intern in January 2011. By the fall she had already risen to the position of senior staff reporter, a role in which she is expected to exceed a the weekly story quota and assist other reporters with their articles and blogs. Jensen does this while also writing regular stories for the Star Tribune’s West Extra section and occasional freelance stories for her hometown newspaper in Albert Lea.
